There is not much to read in today’s meditation, but I am posting some amazing videos if you have the time to view them.
On January 8, 1956, five young American missionaries were speared to death by several members of a remote tribe in Ecuador. They were attempting to make contact with the Waorani people (also called Aucas), a tribe that had been called “the worst people on earth.” I told their story in two previous EmailMeditations several years ago. Mincaye (1930-2020), one of the tribesmen who did the killing, later became a good friend of Steven Saint (1951- ), the son of Nate Saint (1923-1956), one of the missionaries who was killed. It is a long and amazing story. Some of the family members of the murdered missionaries continued to reach out to that tribe. They were not killed, and eventually were accepted by the Waoranis and allowed to live in their village. They were allowed to tell the people about Jesus, and many of them became Christians. Mincaye became a Christian and a leader of the church in his village. For several years Steve Saint and his family lived with the Waoranis, and Mincaye became the adopted ‘grandfather’ of his children. Mincaye accompanied Steve Saint on
several trips back to the United States. They would visit churches, and Mincaye would tell his story, with Steve doing the translation. Mincaye would tell about how he was led out of the violence and darkness of his previous life, and learned to “walk a new trail; God’s Trail.”
There are many accounts of this story on line, both in print and videos. I have posted several videos below. These contain a summary of the story, the testimonies of Steve Saint and Mincaye, music by Steven Curtis Chapman, and more. You need not listen to all of them. There is much repetition– but also some different content in each one. I encourage you to listen to at least one. You may then want to hear more.
