2501) Soon

On November 10, 2020 I wrote: “I will be back soon.  Thank you for reading.  –Pastor Leon Stier”

     Sorry it took so long.

I hope you are all still there.  It has been a while since I posted one of these.  I had some computer and website issues that needed fixing, and I wanted to take a little break anyway.  I thought it might be about a month or two.  It turned out to be much longer.  Now, all rested and with a new computer and a new and improved website (and three surgeries out of the way), I think I am ready for another go at it.

For the most part I will go back to doing the same thing I had been doing, posting a blog each day.  As I begin, there will be some previous posts from the archives, some new ones by me, and some from the writings of others.  Sometime in the future I will be adding some video posts, but I am still working on that.

The name of my website has not changed, but I have given these devotions a new title, “Getting to Know Jesus.”  The first several posts will be specifically on that theme, and, that is indeed the central theme of the entire Christian life.  So that new title will cover everything I want to do here.

All Emailmeditations are immediately posted on the website at:

www.emailmeditations.com .

All 2500 previous readings are also still there.  Take a look at the website ‘Homepage’ and ‘About’ page for more information.  There are also some additional items on the website (and more will be added).  To see what is new, go to the “A Bit More…” tab at the top of the Homepage.

Speaking of ‘SOON,’ Jesus also said he would be back soon.

Revelation 3:11: (Jesus said), “I am coming soon.  Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”

Revelation 22:20:  He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”  Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Andrae Edward Crouch (1942-2015) was an American gospel singer and songwriter, record producer and pastor.  He has been described as ‘the father of modern gospel music’ for the way he combined traditional gospel with contemporary music.  He was awarded seven Grammy Awards and four Gospel Music Association Dove awards, along with an Oscar for his musical arrangements for the movie “The Color Purple.”

In 1976 Crouch wrote both the words and the music for “Soon and Very Soon,” an upbeat song about death and the hereafter, reminiscent of the some of the last words of the Bible where Jesus says “Yes, I am coming soon.”  Two videos are posted here.  In the first, Andrae Crouch sings “Soon and Very Soon” at a “Great American Gospel Sound” concert in 2007.  In the second video, the song is sung by a choir and includes the lyrics.

———-

Soon and very soon,
We are going to see the King,
Soon and very soon,
We are going to see the King.
Soon and very soon,
We are going to see the King,
Hallelujah, hallelujah,
We are going to see the King.

No more crying there,
We are going to see the King,
No more crying there,
We are going to see the King.
No more crying there,
We are going to see the King,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
We are going to see the King.

Hallelujah.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ah.

No more dying there,
We are going to see the King,
No more dying there,
We are going to see the King.
No more dying there,
We are going to see the King,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
We are going to see the King.

Hallelujah.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ah.

Should there be any rivers we must cross,
Should there be any mountains we must climb,
God will supply all the strength that we need,
Give us grace ’til we reach the other side.

We have come from every nation,
God knows each of us by name.
Jesus took His blood and He washed our sins,
And He washed them all away.
Yes, there are some of us,
Who have laid down our lives,
But we all shall live again,
On the other side.

“No more crying…no more dying…Jesus washed our sins away…We all shall live again…Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King.”  That sounds good to me.  I want to be there for that.  You too?  Let’s spend some time each day ‘getting to know Jesus.’

John 17:3  —  (Jesus, praying to the Father, said), “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

Ephesians 1:17  —  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Come, Lord Jesus.  May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

–Revelation 22:20-21
