1854) Tell Me the Truth

TELL  ME
by Shel Silverstein

Tell me I’m clever,
Tell me I’m kind,
Tell me I’m talented,
Tell me I’m cute,
Tell me I’m sensitive,
Graceful and wise,
Tell me I’m perfect –
But tell me the truth.

****************************************

Galatians 4:16  —  Have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

Colossians 3:9  —  Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.

Job 6:24-25a  —  “Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong.  How painful are honest words.”

Proverbs 9:8-9  —  Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you.  Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

Proverbs 27:5-6  —  Better is open rebuke than hidden love.  Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

Lord, give me ears to hear Your truth whenever it comes to me.
