Country music superstar Luke Bryan is known for his chart-topping hits and energetic performances, but his latest album takes a heartfelt turn, offering a glimpse into his personal faith and the pain he’s endured over the years. In the final track of “Mind of a Country Boy,” Bryan shares a deeply personal prayer in a song titled “Jesus ‘Bout My Kids.”  In this song, Luke pleads with Jesus to watch over his children as they navigate life’s challenges: “Now I talk to Jesus ’bout my kids.”

The song is a reflection of Bryan’s role as a father to his two biological sons, Bo and Tate, as well as his adopted nieces and nephew, whom he and his wife, Caroline, took in after a series of family tragedies. The lyrics express his hopes, worries, and ultimate reliance on his faith to protect them.

“There’s only so much you can do,” Bryan says. “You got to turn it over to Jesus…to look after them, because at the end of the day, that’s what you have to depend on—that God and Jesus are looking after them.”

Bryan has been open about his faith, describing how he and Caroline work to ensure their children understand the importance of faith. In a 2015 interview, he said, “We try to stress, every day, the importance of Jesus and being a good person.”

Bryan’s family endured a lifetime of loss within just a few years. His older brother, Chris, died in a car accident in 1996. In 2007, his sister Kelly passed away unexpectedly, and when her husband, Ben, died in 2014, Bryan and Caroline immediately took in their nephew and nieces. “We never thought twice about it,” Caroline said.

These losses continue to shape Bryan’s perspective on life and fatherhood. He has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of losing loved ones and the struggles his family has faced. “You never quite get over it,” Bryan said. But through it all, his faith remains his anchor.

With “Jesus ‘Bout My Kids,” Bryan offers more than just a song—he shares a prayer born out of both love and loss, echoing the personal battles that continue to drive his music and life.

Don’t worry that children never listen to you;

worry that they are always watching you.

Psalms 34:11  —  Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 4:9  —  Be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live.  Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

Almighty God, we thank you for the children which you have given us; give us grace also to train them in your faith, fear, and love; that as they advance in years they may grow in grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

TWO GOOD SONGS FOR FATHER’S DAY BY LUKE BRYAN:

Jesus ‘Bout My Kids, Sung by Luke Bryan , 2024.

Songwriters: Ben Stennis, Brad Rempel, and Jeff Hyde.

I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
The same way that my mom and daddy did
I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
Now I talk to Jesus ’bout my kids

When they’re born, you dive right in
Trying like hell to get ’em born again
Pull out them Bible stories, then you stumble your way through

You do your best to steer ’em straight
Tell ’em ’bout who He is and ain’t
And answer all their questions
Even though you’ve got some too

I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
How He lived and died and rose again
I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
Now I talk to Jesus ’bout my kids

You lose your grip the more they grow
They won’t listen ’cause they think they know
And you watch ’em going down a dead-end road
And you can’t stop ’em
Lord, please watch ’em

I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
Pray they’d find Him sooner than I did
I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
Now I talk to Jesus ’bout my kids

Guide ’em as they go
‘Cause if anyone does, You know
Along the straight and narrow
All the places they could fall

I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
He knew and loved ’em long before I did
I used to talk to my kids about Jesus
Now I talk to Jesus ’bout my kids

One more by Luke Bryan, “Build Me a Daddy.’  Written by  Jake Mitchell, Josh Thompson, and Brett Tyler.  Released for Father’s Day 2020.  Kleenexes will be needed, even if you are tough guy.

“BUILD ME A DADDY”
A boy walks past a window of a glowin’ open signFull of wooden toys and trucks and painted trainsRings a bell up on the counter, hands a picture to the manOf a kid beside a soldier smiling awaySaid, “Sir, I’ve heard you can build anything”
Could you build me a daddy?
Strong as SupermanMake him ten feet tall with a Southern drawlAnd a crooked smile, if you can‘Cause I sure miss himMaybe you could bring him back?If I walked in with him, it’d sure make mama happyIf you could build me a daddy
There’s an old Winchester rifleBack home hangin’ on the wallHe promised me he’d teach me how to aimAnd he said when I got olderWe could work on that curveballI know he’d never wanna miss a gameSo here’s a little money that I’ve saved
Could you build me a daddy?
Strong as SupermanMake him ten feet tall with a Southern drawlAnd a fishing pole in his hand‘Cause I sure miss himMaybe you could bring him back?If I walked in with him, it’d sure make mama happyIf you could build me a daddy
Give him a big heart, make his arms wide openI know he misses me, so Mister, I was hopin’
You could build me a daddy…
